How We Actually Test a Game
People sometimes ask how long we play before writing a review. The honest answer: as long as it takes to have something real to say. For a short adventure like Lanternwood Hollow, that might mean finishing it. For an ongoing strategy game, it means playing well past the honeymoon phase.
We always test on more than one device. A game that hums on a flagship phone can crawl on a three-year-old handset, and plenty of our readers aren't buying new phones every year. Performance on modest hardware is part of the score.
We also pay attention to how a game behaves in the background — the notifications, the nudges, the little tricks to pull you back. A game that respects your time earns points; one that treats you like a metric loses them.
Only after all that do we write. And if two of us disagree, we say so in the piece. Reviews aren't verdicts from on high — they're informed opinions, and we try to show our work.
